This is NOT the New Delorean!
Over the last few years, there have been a lot of rumors about a “New” and updated Delorean, possibly with a modern look and a big engine. Pictured about is a 2011 De Tomaso that makes the rounds every few months, and people start claiming it’s the new Delorean. Well, I’m sorry to break the news to you, but that is simply not the case. As stated, the picture above is a concept drawing from 2011 of a De Tomaso. Per Delorean “The federal law that was passed in late 2015 that allows for low-volume production here in the USA states that the only cars allowed to be built under this legislation are those that resemble production vehicles manufactured at least 25 years ago. Therefore, the planned New DeLorean launch will resemble the original 1981-1983 DeLorean models.
When looking at the specifics of a new Delorean, as mentioned, the cars will look virtually identical to those from 81-83. The real differences that Delorean is planning on making is that in the electronics, engine, chassis, and underbody protection. There is still no timetable on these cars, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ruling is still ongoing. We will have ongoing updates here as they happen, and you can also follow NewDelorean.com/blog for their updates as well.
